On Wednesday, November 27, 2019, Burmese troops entered the peaceful ethnic Mon village in Palanjapan, near the border with Thailand, and after a gun battle with the Mon resistance group, more than 700 people fled across the border into Thailand, just a few kilometers from Sangkhlaburi, to escape the fighting.
The Burmese army soldiers ransacked the villagers' homes and left them with nothing but the clothes they were wearing.
More than 500 of the displaced Mons are being cared for by the Thai Red Cross and humanitarian organizations at Wat Tao Than Temple, near Sangkhlaburi. The Royal Thai Army is also taking care of them and contributing to their protection.
Dada Ricardo Zoleta and the children of Baan Dada Children's Home in Sangkhlaburi responded with a spontaneous action and cooked a meal for more than 500 displaced people at Tao Than Temple on November 30.
Our charity "Schaffhauser Freunde helfen Sangkhlaburi" contributed 15'000 Baht (500 CHF) to this "Cooking for displaced people".
Baan Dada Children's Home will continue to provide food for the displaced and milk for their children as long as funds are available.
Donations in favor of this extraordinary situation are gladly accepted. Donation account details on our website. Note for donations: "Palanjapan Displaced".
